As of July 2nd Bruins fans have a serious reason to get pumped for the upcoming season, Veteran forward Mark Recchi has been signed to a one year contract. The veteran presence Recchi brings to Boston is something I believe is absolutely necessary to bring the cup to bean town.
1,490 NHL regular season games, 545 goals, 897 assists (1,442 points) and 964 penalty minutes, all over 20 seasons. And not to mention Recchi is 41 years old. The Kamloops, BC native was traded to the Bruins on March 4, 2009 for Mārtiņš Karsums and Matt Lashoff, the Bruins also received a 2010 2nd round draft pick. Lets just say this was an excellent trade, Recchi just fits right in Boston. He’s an excellent goal scorer with so much experience that in any situation he can find a way to drive to the net and deliver. Recchi has won two cups in his life time, one with then Pens in 1991 and one with the Canes in 2006. With the 2009-2010 season being his last Mark Recchi is on a hunt for his third and final cup.
After last years game 7 overtime loss to Carolina I think it’s safe to say every Bruins player, Staff member, and certainly every fan is out for revenge. Mark Recchi is key for that revenge to happen. Recchi has played in 1
51 Stanley Cup Playoff games recording a total of 50 goals and 73 assists(123 points). Of those 50 goals 17 were power play and 10 were game winners. With those stats alone it’s evident that Recchi is a high powered dangerous forward who’s been there, and done it all. Recchi has suited up for 7 different teams over his career the Penguins, Flyers, Canadiens, Hurricanes, Thrashers and Lightning, with the Bruins being the 7th.
He may be 41 years old and going on his 21st season in the NHL but one thing’s for sure Recchi is not about to roll over and die. Keep and eye on Mark in the upcoming season as he drives for one last cup, to bring it home to Boston. It may be just me, but when a player comes to Boston and feels the energy and desire to win and be a champion, that player then strives for his or her best. Mark Recchi is certainly no exception.
